The hartal which was observed in Vattiyoorkavu here on Friday after the Congress and BJP activists clashed here in the aftermath of the Lok Sabha polls evoked partial response.
The hartal called by the Congress activists was observed from 6 am to 6 pm. Majority of the shops remained closed in and around Vattiyoorkavu.
In the clashes which occurred in Kodunganoor junction the other day, Shaji, 40, a Congress activist and husband of Kodunganoor ward councillor Sheena G S, suffered minor injuries and was admitted to the Medical College Hospital.
The police had arrested BJP activist Shammi and Congress activist Sugunan. Later in the day, a fracas erupted between the two factions on the premises of the Vattiyoorkavu police station and they laid siege to the station.
While the BJP activists protested demanding the release of Shammi, the Congress activists protested after the BJP activist was released by the police on bail for treatment.
