A youth who duped several persons by posing as an official of the District Panchayat landed in the custody of Kilimanoor Police on Wednesday.
The arrested has been identified as Shamnad, 31, residing at Mynagam House, Mohanapuram, Andoorkonam.
The police said that Shamnad used to visit families who were beneficiaries of the housing scheme of the District Panchayat.
“He would convince them that he was an official of the Panchayat assigned to review the works. He would take measurements of the structure and levied fine amount for even minor alterations from the original plan,” the police said. Shamnad was arrested on a complaint filed by Suresh of Thottivila House, Mottakuzhi, Adayamon.
Suresh was duped on Monday, following which he lodged a police complaint.
The accused was nabbed from Karayam by a team led by Kilimanoor Sub-Inspector T Vijayakumar and ASI Sanal.
