M P Achuthan MP, has demanded that peace be restored in Lakshadweep and immediate steps be taken to stop police action against innocent people in the island.
In a letter written to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Achuthan urged that the Centre should intervene as the post-poll clash between the NCP and the Congress had left many injured at Kalpeni , Androth and innocent people were being targeted by the police.
In two islands, already Section 144 had been imposed. The prohibitory order has hit the normal life of the public with people unable to go for their jobs. All shops have closed down their shutters.
The ruling Congress and the NCP are clashing with each other. “The setback they faced in the Lok Sabha polls is the main reason behind the violence,” he said.
