VS for Stir Against Vehicle Tax Increase

Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Friday said that there should be strong people’s agitation against the recent hike in vehicle tax, collection of five years’ tax in advance and the efforts to sabotage the Motor Workers’ Welfare Fund.

Inaugurating a Secretariat dharna organised  under the aegis of the Kerala Auto, Taxi and Light Motor Workers Confederation (CITU),  Achuthanandan said that the government had raised the vehicle tax by four times.

“Life of the motor workers have become miserable. The hike in taxes is adding to the woes of the general public. It is time for people to join hands with motor workers for a strong agitation demanding the urgent withdrawal of the hike,” the Opposition leader said.

Hundreds of motors workers took part in the march to the Secretariat which began from  East Fort at 11 am.

Confederation state president and CPM district secretary Kadakampally Surendran presided over the meeting.
