Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice J B Koshy has instructed the DGP to initiate department-level action against Pathanamthitta SI Manoj. The order came on a petition filed by Geethakumari, of Kulanada, that Manoj had tortured her son after taking him into custody alleging links with sand mafia.
The Commission rejected Pathanamthitta Crime Detachment DySP’s report on the incident on the ground that it merely supported the FIR. However, it accepted the explanation submitted by the DySP, District Special Branch, which had said the SI had framed the youth for monetary gain.
