Steps Planned to Check Inflow of Spirit

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will take steps to prevent the inflow of spirit and drugs in view of the upcoming Onam season, said Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

A high-level meeting convened by the Minister here on Tuesday assessed that ganja and alcohol were being smuggled into the state in trains.

Inspections on trains will be intensified with the cooperation of the Railway Protection Force. Those who were accused in abkari cases in the past would be monitored.  The Excise Department will be included in the Clean Campus, Safe Campus programme.  Excise Minister K Babu, Principal Secretary Home Nivedita P Haran among others spoke.
