Corporation Councillors Protest in Front of MLA Hostel

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Corporation councillors organised a protest in front of the MLA Hostel here on Wednesday when they were blocked from meeting V Sivankutty MLA at the Legislator’s Hostel.

It was by noon that Corporation PWD standing committee chairman V S Padmakuamr and four other councillors were blocked by the security personnel. Though they insisted that the Corporation vehicle be allowed inside, the security personnel did not relent. Soon, on being informed by the councillors, Sivankutty MLA reached the spot and asked the security staff to allow entry of the vehicle, they remained firm in their position. Following this, the councillors informed Deputy Opposition leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who rushed to the spot. By the time the councillors started their protest. Kodiyeri then contacted Speaker G Karthikeyan, who in turn, directed the security personnel to permit the councillors with their vehicle to go inside.

It was after the incident involving the controversial stay of one of the accused in the Kochi blackmail case that restrictions have been imposed on visitors at the MLA Hostel.
