Dr N Balsalam Award Presented

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr K P Haridas, chairman and managing director of the multi-disciplinary Lords Hospital, was presented with the  Dr N Balsalam Award, instituted by the Qualified Private Medical Practitioners’ Association (QPMPA). He was presented the award for his exemplary service to society.

Former Union Minister O Rajagopal, who presented the award earlier this week, said that a healthy partnership between the public and private sectors was essential for improving healthcare services in the state. “Even though professional competition exists, qualified talents should be identified and recognised.

Apart from the contribution from public hospitals, private hospitals too should come forward to provide quality healthcare to the poor; and it is essential that the government support them in this matter,” he said.

Dr Haridas had earlier received the lifetime achievement award at the UK South India Business Meet-2014 held at the British Parliament for his outstanding contribution to healthcare, social work and philanthropy.

An expert in obesity treatment, Dr Haridas said the condition was becoming a major health problem in the state. QPMPA was launched in 1973 to fight against invisible cost escalation in healthcare delivery in the private sector.
