THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb on Wednesday launched ‘Focus 2015’, a project of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) that envisages overall development of schools, especially those classified as ‘uneconomic’.

According to SSA officials, ‘Focus 2015’ aims at improving the infrastructure and teaching quality of both government and aided schools facing acute student shortage. According to statistics available with SSA, there are 3,523 schools in the state which have been classified as ‘uneconomic’.

In the first phase of ‘Focus 2015’, the SSA state unit wants to ensure that at least 1,000 schools are able to drop their ‘uneconomic’ tag by the next academic year.
