THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state assistant secretary K Prakash Babu said that the decision to cancel bar licences without amending the Foreign Liquor Rules was an eyewash aimed at misleading the people.

He said that the CM’s ambivalent stand was to save the bar owners.

The licence issued to the bars is provisional and the government has the right to cancel it. But there should be sufficient reason for it, he said. He said the govt’s move is to  cancel the licence without amending the rules and pave the way for bar-owners to seek court’s intervention and help them reopen the bars.
