THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the eventful moments of 58th State Schools Athletic Meet held at Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE), Saneesh P S secured the first gold medal for G V Raja Sports Schools, Mylom.

In a big relief  for the the school, Saneesh bagged a gold medal in 200 metre junior boys’ category. However, the sprinter had failed to make his mark at the 100 metre race of junior boys.

G-V-Raja.jpgAccording to his coach Surendran,  Saneesh was not able to take off properly in that event. ‘’He is a very promising athlete from G V Raja Sports School and he needs to focus more for consistency in performance,’’ said Chacko, another coach at G V Raja School.

His victory in 200 metre race pushing Omkar Nath of St George HSS, Kothamangalam, to the second spot was a surprise. Omkar Nath had bagged gold medal in the 100 metre sprint held on the second day of the meet. Saneesh finished 200 metre race clocking a time of 23.21 seconds, though he was unable to break the 28-year-old state of 22.4 seconds by Saji P S.

‘’My best timing is 22.4 seconds, I could have made a better finish. I hoping to do the best in the upcoming National Schools State Meet,’’ Saneesh told ‘Express’.

Saneesh was one of those few school athletes from the state who had participated at the national junior athletics meet held in Vijayawada in November.

‘’My performance here was affected due to the lack of rest following participation at the revenue schools athletics meet and national junior athletics meet which followed,’’ added Saneesh.

G V Raja Sports School managed to garner only 3 medals in the meet here with two silver medal and one gold.
