Forest Department to Organise Mega Expo

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Department of Forest and Wildlife is organising ‘Kananasangamom 2015’, a mega expo from February 28 to March 2. It would showcase the culture of people living in and around forests, their livelihood, art, craft and multitude of  products and services they provide to the community at large.

The main focus will be on services and products of tribal communities both within and outside the state. The event to be held at Kanakakunnu Palace here will also highlight the eco systems of forests which sustain the very life on earth.

The forest products ranging from food to medicines, services like eco tourism, values like bio diversity and cultural diversity of ethnic communities are a few in the long chain of themes that would be on display.

The event will provide platform for cultural, art and craft-related performance also.

Exhibition of Vanasree, the outlet of the department, products and other craft materials, seminars and symposium on topical subjects, among other things, are proposed as a part of the event.

The event will also provide a platform for the department and all other allied institutions and agencies to showcase their role and achievements in relation to activities initiated to improve the livelihood and well being of the forest dependent communities.
