140 Children’s Art Galleries to be Set up in Schools

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time in the country, 140 children’s art galleries will be set up in the schools of the state with assistance from the Lalithakala Akademi.

The list of the schools were children’s art galleries are to be set up were declared by Educational Dept secretary A Shahjahan; Director of Public Instruction Gopalakrishna Bhatt and the chairman of Lalithakala Akademi K A Francis on Tuesday. A school in each Assembly constituency has been selected for the establishment of the art gallery.

Paintings of children from the painting competition held in each school during the last Children’s Day would be exhibited in the art galleries of respective legislative Assembly constituency.

Headmasters of the schools where art galleries will be set up are entitled to get the service of art teachers and artists to maintain the gallery. The art galleries would be transformed to cultural centres for the benefit of students. In T’Puram, GVHSS Parassala, Govt GHS at Neyyattinkara, Cotton Hill Govt Girls HS, Government Model HSS at Venganoor, GVHSS at Manacaud, Govt VHSS at Vattiyoorkavu, Government High School at Kazhakoottam, Government High School at Vithura, GHS Avanavanchery, Government Upper Primary School at Chalavila, Govt Girls HS, Nedumangadu, Govt HS, Navayikulam, Govt HS, Aruvikkara and GHSS Malayinkeezhu would be the schools where the art galleries would be established.In Kollam dist, 11 schools will have art galleries, Alappuzha (9), Pathanamthitta (5), Kottayam (9), Idukki (5), Ernakulam (14), Thrissur (14),Malappuram (16), Palakkad (10), Wayanad (3), Kannur (11) and Kasaragod (5).
