For Sanju, an Year to Cherish

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  For Kerala’s cricketing wonderkid Sanju V Samson, 2014 was indeed an year to remember. The teenager continued his development as  a cricketer during the year which was rewarded by a call up to the Indian senior cricket team during their tour of England in August.

Sanju began the year with the Indian under-19 team where he represented the country in the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at UAE in February, his best knock - a 48-ball 85 against Papua New Guinea at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium earning him the man of the match award.

He followed it up with noteworthy displays for India A in a quadrangular one-day series at Australia where he finished as the team’s highest run-getter with 244 runs from seven innings, that despite being dropped to the unfamiliar role of a middle order batsman.  Still waiting to make his senior India debut, Sanju will be hoping that his exploits in the domestic circuit as well as the Indian Premier League will help him find a place in the Indian team sooner rather than later.
