Masters Athletic Meet in City

The city will play host to the 33rd State Masters (Veteran) Athletic Meet this weekend in which athletes in the age group of 35 to 90 will participate.

The city will play host to the 33rd State Masters (Veteran) Athletic Meet this weekend in which athletes in the age group of 35 to 90 will participate.

“The athletic meet will begin on Saturday with the hoisting of the flag at 6.30 am, followed by a five-kilometre walkathon. The meet will be formally inaugurated by state police chief K N Balasubramanian at 2 pm. The events will held in the University Stadium and Central Stadium,” N Krishnan Kutty, secretary of Masters Athletic Federation of Kerala, told a news conference here.

Former Sports Minister M Vijayakumar, former MLA M J Jacob and veteran sports persons who have represented the country in Asian and World athletic meets will participate in the masters athletic meet. Participants will be divided into various categories of five years each, beginning with the age of 35.

The meet will conclude at 4 pm on Sunday. Athletes who win first and second prizes will be eligible to participate in the 35th National Masters Athletic Meet to be held from February 24 to 27 in Coimbatore, Krishnan Kutty said.
