Kudumbashree Travels, an all-women initiative, has come up with new packages to strengthen its functioning in the city.

According to the Kudumbashree Mission, two types of services, namely ‘single pick and drop’ and ‘daily pick and drop’, will be made available.

Under the single pick and drop system, return charge will also be included and it will be charged from one of the seven points from where the service starts to the destination of those availing of the facility. On the other hand, daily pick and drop will be regular services to offices, schools, tuition centres etc.

It has also been decided to start certain special packages based on place, time and waiting time.

‘Daily pick and drop’ facility aims at the safety of schoolchildren, especially girls. Under this facility, children will be dropped in schools and will be taken back from schools or tuition centres on a daily basis. Similar pick and drop schemes will also be available for ladies travelling in groups or individually to offices.

Trips to pilgrim centres and other tourist destinations are also included under the special package. If the facility becomes successful, provisions for shopping and other long-distance tours would also be included in the package.

The seven stops where Kudumbashree Travels will provide services are Medical College, Pattom, Ambalamukku, Sasthamangalam, Museum, Statue and Railway Station.

According to the officials, for one hour or 15 km a minimum fare of Rs 250 will be charged. The service will be provided from 6 am to 8 pm. The women drivers of Kudumbashree Travels said that the new schemes were aimed at reviving the taxi service.

“It is a pro-women venture and is for the safety of women in the city,” they said.
