The Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) Kasaragod will extend technical support to entrepreneurs of the southern districts interested in venturing into producing value-added products from farm produce.
Interested entrepreneurs of southern districts can approach the Agriculture incubation centre which was set up by the Institute recently to provide technical assistance to entrepreneurs-cum-farmers. “There are a variety of technologies developed by the institute like the one to manufacture coconut chips, virgin coconut oil and the like. The idea behind setting up the incubation centre is to diversify the activities of the institute to technology promotion in addition to research,” said CPCRI principal scientist C Thampan.
The Institute has started focusing on technology promotional activities on the lines of those initiated by the national- level institutions. CPCRI will play the role of facilitator apart from providing technical knowhow, guidance and training to the entrepreneurs.
It will also help the entrepreneurs get financial assistance from banks and for entrepreneurs to have links with institutions like Coconut Development Board, if needed.
The incubation centre also aims at providing assistance to those entrepreneurs who have started work on their venture and abandoned it midway due to lack of guidance.
Some entrepreneurs in Kasaragod have adopted news technology after getting the assistance from the incubation centre.
A workshop will be held here on Friday in which selected entrepreneurs cum farmers from three districts- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kottayam - will take part.
