In the view of the flocking of devotees to the city by the end of this week in in connection with the Pongala festival at Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will ply special services from various depots in the city.
According to the transport corporation, buses would be operated from major points in the city depending on the rush of passengers. New buses would be introduced from Pappanamcode, Vikas Bhavan, Vellanad and Peroorkada depots.
The buses from East Fort would ply to Attukal via East Fort-Attakulangara-Killipalam-Bund Road.
As part of the special traffic arrangements, the City Traffic Police and the regional transport officer started a drive to check the private city service buses last week. Action was taken against more than 450 buses for not sticking to the schedules and routes.
The action was taken following a complaint filed by District Transport Officer M S Suresh to the Assistant Commissioner of Traffic. The drive would be intensified in the coming days.
However, the KSRTC buses plying through the route have been experiencing an unprecedented rush after the 10-day-long festival began on Saturday.
The buses would now take the Palayam- General Hospital- Vanchiyoor- Uppidamoodu Bridge-Transport Bhavan - East Fort route. In the return direction, they would proceed from East Fort to Statue and Palayam and to various places.
