Kochi-based Builder Held for Cheating City Man

The Cantonment Police have arrested a Kochi-based builder who allegedly cheated a Thiruvananthapuram-based investor in a villa project.

The Cantonment Police have arrested a Kochi-based builder who allegedly cheated a Thiruvananthapuram-based investor in a villa project.

 The police said the arrested was Dr Radhakrishnan, chairman of Santhimadom Builders based in Paravur in Ernakulam. The complainant, Kailas of Pothencode here, alleged that he had paid Rs 33 lakh to the company which promised him a villa in Guruvayur. He preferred a police complaint in 2013 after he wasn’t delivered the villa as per the agreement.

 Radhakrishnan was arrested from his residence at Paravur on Monday around 3 pm. The police said the builder is an accused in around 30 similar complaints registered at various places, including the Guruvayur police station.    


Threat to Central Jail Superintendent

The Poojappura Police have registered a case on a complaint filed by the Poojappura Central Jail Superintendent Sam Thankayyan over an anonymous threatening letter.

 Poojappura sub-inspector R Rajesh said the letter received by the jail authorities was handed over to the station on Sunday. The letter warns jail officials “who engage in custodial torture”.

 “A gang has been formed to end the torture of convicts in jail. We will take revenge against officials who harass jail inmates. The incident at Kalady should be an eye-opener to such officials,” the letter said.

The letter also warns of attacking the family of the jail officials, including their children.

 The postal seal on the envelope is unclear and an investigation is on, the sub-inspector said.


Man Hangs Himself

A man committed suicide by hanging at his residence at Ilamba in Attingal on Sunday night. The deceased was Shibu, 42, of Meena Bhavan.


Man’s Body Recovered

The body of a man who committed suicide by jumping into the Anchuthengu backwaters on Sunday was fished out on Monday. The deceased was Kochumani, 48, of Charuvila House, Kolichira.

 The police said some fishermen alerted them after they saw a man jumping into the backwaters on Sunday morning. The bicycle and some personal belongings left on the banks helped in identifying the person, the police said.

 Kochumani’s body was recovered from Chudukadu banks on Monday morning.

 He is survived by wife Shailaja, and children Arun and Anju.


Bike Mishap: Man Succumbs to Injuries

A man who was injured in a vehicle mishap at Alathoor near Aryancode on February 4 died at Medical College Hospital on Sunday. The deceased was Sunilkumar, 44, of Varuvila Puthenveedu House, Anavoor. The police said Sunilkumar was injured after the bike he rode collided with a jeep owned by the Perumkadavila panchayat.


Fatally Falls from Coconut Tree

A man died after falling from a coconut tree at Poochedivila in Kattakada on Monday morning. The deceased was Jose, 38, of Shiji Bhavan, Poochedivila, Kattakode near Kattakada. The police said he was injured after falling from the coconut tree of his neighbour, identified as Maniyan.
