Affected People to Continue Agitation
Even though the state government has decided to temporarily freeze the draft master plan for capital development, the residents of Kattayikonam and Chanthavila divisions are not ready to swallow mere words and, instead, are planning to continue their stir until and unless they get a written statement about the cancellation of the draft.
The local people allege that a temporary freeze is just to mislead people and the draft will be resumed after the Lok Sabha elections.
The decision to freeze the draft master plan was taken following the concerns and complaints expressed by various sections of society. The master plan had been allegedly prepared without carrying out proper studies or analysis. The government has said that a new master plan will be given shape after hearing the concerns of the residents of these areas.
Though the draft has been frozen, the residents here are still not getting the building permits or other land documents. This has landed them in trouble and the people’s council formed by the residents of Kattayikonam and Chanthavila divisions are planning to intensify its stir.
“This temporary freezing will be only till the Lok Sabha elections and the master plan will be resumed after that as the leaders are sure that this would affect them in the election,” said people’s council chairman Thulaseedharan.
Earlier, several action councils had been formed in protest against the move to acquire land. Almost all the people in the area joined one of the groups after the officials denied building permits citing that their properties have been earmarked for various projects as per the draft master plan.
