Poet D Vinayachandran was known for his poems that added a rustic charm to modern Malayalam poetry. The glory of his poems lies in their rustic nature, former education minister M A Baby has said.

He was inaugurating a commemoration meet organised at Public Library Hall here on the first death anniversary of the poet on Tuesday.

M Rajeev Kumar presided over the function. ‘’Vinayachandran blended oral folk poetry with modernism in his own style,” he said. A book on Vinayachandran was released during the event.  Baby handed over the first copy of the book ‘D Vinayachandran: Adhunikathayude samanthara rangapurushan’ to M Rajeev Kumar.  P P Raveendran, B Murali and Pradeep Panangad spoke.

A photo exhibition on the late poet was put up in the hall. There was also a ‘kaviyarangu’ (poets’ meet) in which several poets, including Vinayachandran’s friends, took part.
