Tamil Nadu police have started a probe into the death of a Kerala woman whose body was found under suspicious circumstances at Padanthalumoodu, near Kaliyikkavila, on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Haseena, 28, of Haseena Manzil, Mulayamkodu, Alamukku in Poovachal. Haseena, who was living separated from her husband, was employed at a massage parlour in Kovalam. She was living with her nine-year-old son in her parents’ home.
Though the relatives of the woman had raised suspicion over the death, the police said they were waiting for the postmortem report. The post-mortem was done at Government Hospital, Marthandam.
“It could either be a suicide or murder. The forensic and post-mortem reports would help us to reach a conclusion,” a probe team official said.
The relatives said Haseena had left home on Wednesday morning to her workplace.
“She had told her parents that she would return only after a day. On Thursday morning, the body was found in a crematorium at Padanthalumoodu,” they said.
The police have ruled out robbery as a motive if the case turns out to be a murder. They said her ornaments and money kept in the handbag were not stolen. A handwritten letter was also recovered from the bag.
The police refused to ascertain the relatives’ speculation that the letter had reference to her relation with an industrialist hailing from Tamil Nadu.
