Pongala: City Police Announce Parking Areas

Parking should be avoided near the hearths and on main roads except the parking area. Vehicles passing through roads where pongala is offered should move slowly.

The City Police have asked devotees arriving for the Pongala festival to make use of the parking facility at designated locations. The places include University College, Government Sanskrit College and University Office campuses at Palayam; Kanakakkunnu grounds; St Joseph’s School ground; Tagore Theatre campus, Vazhuthacaud; Law College campus, PMG; Government Arts College ground, Thycaud; NSS College ground, Karamana; Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering, Pappanamcode; Government High School ground, Karamana; and Government Model High School ground, Thycaud.

Vehicles can also be parked on the sides of Chackai-Kovalam Bypass road. Parking should be avoided near the hearths and on main roads except the parking area. Vehicles passing through roads where pongala is offered should move at slow speeds.

 The police have asked the public to avoid setting up hearths on the tiled pavements and to use the tarred surface at such places. Complaints and suggestions can be told over 9497987001, 9497987002, 0471-2558726, 0471-2558731.

Holiday Declared

T’Puram: A regional holiday has been declared for government offices and educational institutions on Saturday afternoon in view of Sunday’s Attukal Pongala. The holiday will be for institutions in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation limits.

 The Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM) and Priyadarshini Planetarium at PMG will remain closed on Sunday on account of the Attukal Pongala, KSSTM director Arul Jerald Prakash said. ENS
