A mock drill on how to react in the face of a natural disaster like an earthquake was conducted at Sarvodaya Central Vidyalaya here on Wednesday.
The drill was held under the supervision of R Viji, former project officer, United Nations Development Programme, Risk Reduction Project, said school officials in a release.
Organised to create awareness about the hazards caused by natural calamities, the students, teachers and other staff had been briefed about the evacuation process in advance.
During the drill, the different ways to protect oneself during an earthquake - like hiding under a desk and moving to the corners of a room - were demonstrated.
An evacuation plan was also put in place.
On hearing the bell, the entire school was alerted and on the second bell, they moved to the ‘safe places’, the release said.
As part of the day’s programme, school principal K T Cherian Panicker administered an oath to sensitise everyone to the need for preparedness at all times for any eventuality and disaster.
