Saritha Issue: VS Writes to Chennithala

Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan on Saturday wrote a letter to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala calling for a probe into the source of crores of rupees spent by solar scam accused Saritha, while in prison, to settle the cases. In the letter, Achuthanandan said that a probe was necessary to bring out the correct position of the case before the public.

He pointed out that 33 cases had been filed in connection with the solar scam. As per the  government’s own statistics, Rs 6 crore worth fraud has been committed in these cases.

Govt Chief Whip P C George had stated that the scam actually involved Rs 10,000 crore. The Opposition leader pointed out that Saritha had availed of bail in all 33 cases, reportedly paying the amount due to the complainants.  “Saritha had submitted an affidavit in the court that she and her mother had no money left with them.  The government had stated in an affidavit about how she spent the Rs 6 crore she defrauded from the public. The affidavit had stated that Saritha had only Rs 70,000 with her. If that be the case, how  did she manage to get bail?” Achuthanandan asked in the letter.
