Lankan Consulate Opens Today

The new Consulate of Sri Lanka in the capital city will become functional from February 26. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the consulate.

The new Consulate of Sri Lanka in the capital city will become functional from February 26. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the consulate.

 The consulate will help to strengthen the relationship between India and Sri Lanka. Cooperation between Kerala and Sri Lanka in the fields of trade, agriculture, industry and higher education is also likely to increase with the setting up  of the consulate.

 Joemon Joseph has been appointed as the Honorary Consul. It was the combined efforts of Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor and Chandy that the consulate is being established in the capital.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala,  K Muraleedharan, MlA, CPI state secretary Panniyan Raveendran,  BJP state president V Muraleedharan,  CPM Thiruvananthapuram district secretary Kadakamppally Surendran,  Bharat Bhavan member secretary Satheesh Babu Payyanur and Chamber of Commerce and Industry Southern Region president Biju Ramesh will be present.
