The Kerala Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has warned of criminal action against Railway officials if worn out bogies are used in long-distance trains from Kerala. In the order, KHRC Chairperson Justice J B Koshy has said that only bogies in good condition should be used in the trains running in the state.
The order was issued on a complaint by Railway Passengers Association general secretary K Jayakumar. In the petition, it was alleged that 206 bogies used in the trains running in the state were more than 20 years old.
Jayakumar had filed the petition after a bogie of the train to Bangalore from Kochuveli broke apart during shunting on February 2.
The order had been sent to Railway Ministry, Southern Railway General Manager and Railway Secretary.
