The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called upon the government to take a scientific approach to drug trials and to include researchers, experts from the medical and legal field in the panel that looks into the drug trial issues. The IMA said the government should see that controversies are avoided with respect to drug trials and urged the government to bring in a system for proper scientific drug trials. IMA state president A V Babu said that it was not proper to entrust the drug controller alone with issues related to drug trials.“Persons with medical and legal grounds and researchers should also be included in the panel that looks into the issues related to drug trials,” he said.
Babu said this after reports came that the government had entrusted the Drugs Control Office for looking into drug trials.
