Government Urged to Write Off Debts

Pattikajathi-Pattikavarga Samrakshana Sabha state committee has urged the government to write off all debts of persons belonging to these communities.

Sabha president K V Padmanabhan, general secretary Koliyur Chandran, Kavalloor Madhu, Krishnankutty and others told reporters here on Tuesday that they were planning to launch a stir raising five demands. They said that while the annual budget for the last fiscal had allocated Rs 198.24 crore  for these sections, Rs 74.2 crore was made to lapse.

They also alleged that the total debt of the SC/ST communities in the state was estimated to be Rs 37 crore as per the information made available through the RTI Act. But it is just the half of the amount that was made to lapse during the last fiscal, the leaders alleged.

In view of this, the government should take steps to write off the debts incurred by   Dalits and tribals urgently, they said.
