Stating that there was no anti-incumbency wave against the UDF, Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said on Wednesday that the development activities of the government will help the UDF score a major victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

He was addressing the pre-poll lecture series organised by the Trivandrum Press Club.

‘’Normally anti-incumbency tendency is visible in elections. However, the UDF government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has changed the  state’s development scene and this will help the UDF in the poll. The voters will evaluate the development activities brought in by the UDF Government,’’ he said.

The mass contact programme, development of infrastructure and speedy decisions of the government have captured the public imagination. The economy has attained significant growth and job opportunities too have increased, he said.

‘’Kerala had fought for the rights of  people with regard to the Kasturirangan report and the government’s stand had given relief to people residing in the areas designated as environmentally vulnerable,’’ Kunhalikutty said.  Claiming that Kerala had made great strides in the field of education, especially in higher education, Kunhalikutty said there was much development in the IT and industries sector. There are lots of employment opportunities for youth in places like Infopark and Technocity. The start-up village too has received good response, he said.

Pointing out that the people have begun to think in terms of development, Kunhalikutty said that the voters know how to judiciously cast their votes. When asked on how many seats the UDF will secure, he said that the Front will be in a better position than the last Lok Sabha elections.

On questions related to allegations on Emerging Kerala, Kunhalikutty said that the event has resulted in major developments in the education and IT sector.

Kunhalikutty said that the UDF had fielded party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in all constituencies unlike the LDF which has fielded Independents in many constituencies.

To a question, Kunhaklikutty said that there was no controversy related to the candidature of E Ahmed in Malappuram. The party was of the view that experienced leaders like Ahmed should be in Parliament.
