Curbs on Use of Ammonium Nitrate

With instances of chemical fertiliser ammonium nitrate being used in the production of explosives on the rise, the Kerala police have come out with measures to restrict the misuse of the chemical.

State police chief K S Balasubramanian issued an order to the force to make sure that ammonium nitrate rules issued by the Central Govt regarding the production, distribution, export, import, possession and usage of the chemical are strictly adhered to. According to the law, laboratories, educational institutions, health institutions and hospitals can store five kg or less of ammonium nitrate for educational and scientific purposes, strictly following the rules.“Ammonium nitrate should not be stored along with flammable objects  and should not be carried in transport vehicles,” the police informed.
