The first hundi counting after the SC-appointed committee took charge began at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here on Wednesday. Counting of the collection from about 40 offering boxes is done by the officials of the Dhanlaxmi Bank.

The committee members were present at the temple when the counting began. Officials of the Revenue Dept, temple and police are monitoring the process. Officials said it would take two to three weeks to complete the counting. The last counting was held some six months ago.

The Archaeology Dept has stopped the excavation activities near the north gate of the temple following a directive from the committee.

The committe observed that the activities posed a threat to security and that any such activity required the apex court’s prior sanction.
