Three Ports to Get Reach Stackers

The Ports Department is equipping three of its ports with reach stackers. Reach stackers are vehicles used for handling cargo containers in small and medium ports.

Kollam, Beypore and Vizhinjam ports will get the vehicles, costing Rs 2.34 crore each, the Ports Department said.

The tendering process had been completed and the vehicles will be commissioned soon.

The department has also completed the paper work for purchasing a tug for the Azheekal port. The 750-hp tug will cost the department nearly Rs 6 crore.

The department is also spending Rs 38.53 lakh on new channel marker buoys in Vizhinjam. Seven buoys will be deployed, the department said.
