In the wake of heavy rains in the state, the officials of the Health Department have been asked to be alert against the spread of epidemics.

Health Minister V S Sivakumar gave the instructions at a high-level meeting convened here which was attended by Health Secretary K Elangovan, health director P K Jameela and additional director N Sreedhar. As part of the prevention drive, cleanliness drive will be conducted in all offices, hospitals and public places on May 19. It was also decided to clean all water resources on May 25.

In another meeting on taking precautions against the spread of epidemics in the district, Sivakumar said that elaborate measures had been taken to prevent and control the spread of monsoon diseases. He also stressed the need for strengthening the activities in the local bodies. “Health Department officials should coordinate with the officials in the Corporation, municipalities and panchayats to prevent the spread of epidemics,” he said.
