Reading Day and Week Celebrations to be Organised

The organising committee of the P N Panicker Foundation has decided to conduct Reading Day and Week celebration in June. The decision was taken after holding talks with Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb here.

The Reading Day and Reading Week celebration has been organised by the Foundation for the past 18 years in association with the State Government with an aim to spread the message of P N Panicker of ‘grow by reading and get wise by thinking’ among the youngsters.

As part of the celebration, all students and staff of schools, colleges, offices and other institutions in the state will take a Reading Day pledge on June 19 which is observed as the ‘Reading Day’.

This year’s Reading Day celebrations will carry the message - Social development through knowledge societies.

Also, all schools in the state will hold prize money quiz competitions between June 5 and 13 to inculcate reading habits among the students.

On June 14, district-level quiz competitions will be held at the respective district headquarters of the Foundation while the state-level competition will be held at Kanakakkunnu Palace here on May 22.

A week-long Jan Vignan Vikas Yatra will also be held in all panchayats in the state.

M A Baby MLA, CPI state secretary Pannian Raveendran, Panchayat department secretary James Varghese, General Education Department secretary A Shajahan and Technical education director Latha, among others, were also present at the meeting.
