There were allegations that the politicians and some policemen and government employees were linked with the moneylending business with exorbitant interest rates, known in local parlance as ‘Blade’. The political influence of this mafia has been suspected as the ‘ force’ behind the sudden change of guard that happened at the official level.
“This helped the mafia to regroup without any obstruction. Their links inside the department became a loophole for them, to escape from the ‘highly confidentially planned’ movements of the department to nab these ‘Shylocks’. Now there are demands from the public to trace out these ‘messengers’ within the force to make the probe more effective,” said a senior police official.
