Murder Accused Nabbed after 10 Years

Crime Branch officials nabbed a murder accused on Monday after a long gap of 10 years.

Kannan alias Gopalan, of Muthedam near Nilambur, Malappuram, was arrested in connection with the murder of Cheerangan Abdul Rasheed.

Abdul Rasheed was found dead near a hotel on October 25, 2004, at Edakkara in Malappuram district.

The case, which was initially investigated by the local police, was later handed over to Kozhikode Crime Branch.

The investigation was based on the information gathered from locals as well as the regular visitors to the nearby bars and toddy shops. The information from these people became crucial in leading to Kannan.

“Kannan has confessed to the murder. He doubted that Rasheed had an illicit relationship with his wife, which lead to the murder,” the police said. Kannan was later remanded.
