The vice-president of Valiyaparambu grama panchayat of Kasaragod district Mattumal Baby has been disqualified under the anti-defection law by the State Election Commission.
State Election Commissioner K Sasidharan Nair disqualified Baby based on a complaint filed by former panchayat president Sindhu.
In the last elections, the UDF had got 7 seats and the LDF 6. Sindhu of UDF was elected as the president of panchayat. Mattumal Baby of UDF was to become the president after two-and-a half years. However, the LDF had brought in a no-confidence motion against Sindhu and in the voting Baby sided with the LDF.
