The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has issued orders directing  the Food Secretary to shift the City Rationing Office (North) to an alternative location which is more convenient to the public.

The Commission’s directive came after ration dealers and the public complained that the present location of the office causes a lot of inconvenience to them. In the complaint, it was pointed out that there was not enough space to park vehicles. Also, visiting the office situated on the third floor was a tough task to many senior citizens.

“Senior citizens slipping and falling on the steep steps during rainy season had become a permanent occurrence,” the complaint alleged adding that some officials had thwarted efforts to shift the office due to “vested interests.”
