THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The O N V Pratibha Foundation, a city-based foundation set up to honour Jnanpith award winner O N V Kurup, will begin its operations here on the poet’s 83rd birthday on May 27.
Renowned poet Sugathakumari will inaugurate the foundation while Bengali poet Subodh Sarkar will speak at the series of talks on poetry slated to be held on the day, said K Jayakumar, Vice-Chancellor of Malayalam University and chairman of the foundation. “The foundation aims to familiarise ONV’s works to the younger generation and work towards the sustainability of Malayalam language and culture,” said Jayakumar.
The foundation will also institute various literary awards for established as well as young writers and give assistance to them. It will also conduct research into the study of poetry.
The inaugural function will begin at 10 pm by offering ‘guru vandanam’ to O N V Kurup, followed by a seminar on the evolution of ONV’s poems. K Satchidanandan will be the main speaker during the seminar along with E P Rajagopalan and P Soman.
There will also be a recitation of poems written by ONV and the premiere of a documentary film on the poet. A dance interpretation of his poems will be performed from 7.30 pm.
