Sampath Puts Up Impressive Show

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM’s A Sampath put up an impressive show on Friday, defeating nearest rival Bindu Krishna of the Congress by a margin of 69,378 votes in Attingal Lok Sabha constituency.

Sampath started on a solid note, notching up a lead of 15,708 votes when 25 per cent of the votes were counted. Bindu Krishna was unable to even have a look-in with Sampath’s lead growing by the minute.

When half the votes were counted, his lead had grown by 32,000 votes. Sampath also showed up at the media centre at Mar Ivanios Vidya Nagar, checking out the trends on the huge screens.

Sampath, along with P Karunakaran, is likely to emerge a contender for CPM’s parliamentary party leader’s post.

“It’s for the party to take a final decision. There are a couple of other senior leaders such as central committee member P K Sreemathi,” Sampath said.
