Held Under Goonda Act

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A history-sheeter was detained by the Kallambalam Police on Monday under the provisions of Goonda Act. The arrested was Reebu, 32, of Thekkevila House, Karavaram, Thottakad.

Police said the arrested had been detained under the Goonda Act twice earlier.

The latest arrest followed a robbery at an air travel office at Kallambalam on May 8.

The accused had demanded Rs 10,000 hafta from the shop where only a saleswoman was present. When she refused, he got away with a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000 kept on the table.

Police said the arrested was an accused in several cases, including theft and robbery registered at Kallambalam Police Station.  

Robbery at temple

Thieves who broke into a temple at Kattakada got away with  gold and silver ornaments on Sunday night. The incident occurred at Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, Pezhumoodu.

According to Kattakada police, the thieves broke open the sanctum sanctorum, stole a gold locket worth half a sovereign and silver ornament half a kg.  A sum of Rs 2,000 kept in an offering box was also stolen. The total loss is estimated around Rs 36,000.  Forensic team collected evidence and dog squad visited the spot. The police are yet to get any clue on the accused. 

Receipt Book Leaves Missing

In a strange theft case, blank leaves of a land tax receipt book were found missing at the village office at Ottasekharamangalam the other day.

Aryancode police said the theft is suspected to have occurred on Sunday and the act came to light when the employees arrived on Monday morning.

The thieves entered the office after breaking open the front door. However, they left after locking the door with a new lock, the police said. The police have launched a search for the culprits.

Found Dead

A person was found dead at a private lodging at Oolanpara Junction on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Muraleedharan Nair, 50, of Manacaud.  Peroorkada Police said Nair was a staff of HLL Lifecare. He had gone missing since May 15 evening. The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. The police said the cause of death was suspected to be a heart attack. 

Abduction Bid: Youth Arrested

A youth who tried to abduct a six-year- old boy was arrested by the Thiruvallam police. The arrested was Rajeev, of Varuvila House, Palapoor, Vellayani.

Thiruvallam Police said the incident occurred at Padinjare Poonkulam where the kid’s father worked as a mike operator. The kid was playing on the roadside when the accused carried him over the shoulder and tried to flee.  On hearing the boy’s cries, the locals rushed to his rescue and apprehended the accused. He was later handed over to the police. The police said the accused was in an inebriated state.
