Two Hotels Sealed in District

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two hotels were sealed and 22 slapped with improvement notices in raids conducted by Food Safety officials across the district on Tuesday.  Twenty-seven hotels were fined, the Commissioner of Food Safety said in a statement here.

Special squads had taken out raids in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts on the basis of complaints that food safety standards were not being maintained.

Five squads from other districts had conducted the inspections in Thiruvananthapuram. The Malabar Fast Food, Varkala, and Chillies Restaurant, Pangappara, were sealed for violation of food safety norms.

A special squad under the Assistant Food Safety Commissioner, Ernakulam conducted the raids in Navayikulam and Kallambalam. One hotel was slapped with improvement notice and eight were fined a total of Rs 74,000.

The Assistant Food Safety Commissioner, Alappuzha, led the raids in Malayinkeezhu and Kattakkada. Eight hotels were issued improvement notices and seven hotels were fined a total of Rs 45,000.

Raids conducted by the Assistant Food Safety Commissioner, Kottayam, in East Fort, Enchakkal, Killipalam and Ambalathara saw seven hotels being issued improvement notices and four fined.

The Assistant Food Safety Commissioner, Thrissur, supervised the inspections in  Pangappara, Kazhakkoottam and Kariavattom, while Assistant Food Safety Commissioner, Kollam, led the inspections in Neyyattinkara and Parassala.

Likewise, the raids in Ernakulam were led by five squads from other districts. So far, 14 hotels have been sealed and 114 slapped with improvement notices. An amount of Rs 7.43 lakh has been collected as fine.
