THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : A person who allegedly consumed poison while in police custody died at the Medical College Hospital early on Tuesday morning. The deceased was Sreeji, 26, of Puthuvalputhenvedu, Kulathoor.
Parassala Police had taken him into custody from the Poovar bus stand premises on Monday night. According to police, he had kept poison in his undergarment and consume it in night. Though he was rushed to the hospital, his life cannot be saved, they said. Sreeji is an accused in various theft cases, the police said. The relatives of the deceased have alleged custodial torture and subsequent poisoning. A department- level inquiry has not been announced yet.
