Three Get 10-year RI for Abetting Suicide

The CBI Special Court here sentenced three persons, including a woman, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a total fine of Rs three lakh for abetting the suicide of a woman in 2004.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The CBI Special Court here sentenced three persons, including a woman, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a total fine of Rs three lakh for abetting the suicide of a woman in 2004.

Priyanka, wife of Sreekanth, committed suicide by self-immolation at her husband’s house in Station Kadavu, Thumba, on August 8, 2004.

The accused are Sreekanth’s maternal aunt Radhamani, her husband Srinivasan and Sreekanth’s brother Sreelal.

Sreekanth was acquitted by the court.

The compensation amount of Rs three lakh and a gold ring that belonged to Priyanka should be handed over to Priyanka’s daughter, the court ordered.

CBI deputy SP Pradeep Kumar probed the case. The body of Priyanka was exhumed as part of the investigation. ENS
