Power Outages Make Life Hell

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Power supply disruptions have become a routine affair in several areas in Nemom, local people complain.

The problem has been existing for over the past six months and complaints have fallen on deaf ears, according to them. ‘’It’s become an almost daily affair. There is no problem in the areas where the lines have been upgraded, but in quite a lot of places including the industrial estate area, Vellayani Junction, Karakkamandapam, Melamcode and Ponnumangalam,’’ said Sukumaran Nair, secretary, Thampuran Nagar Residents’ Association, Nemom.

‘’It’s not that the KSEB officials at the local electrical section are not responding. They have rushed to our help whenever we lodge a complaint. But they have not been able to find a lasting solution to it,’’ Sukumaran Nair said.

The manager of a local school said that the frequent power disruptions have affected the functioning of the school. ‘’Since much of our office work is conducted online now, such outages have become a problem,’’ the school official said.

The problem persists during daytime although the KSEB has not imposed daytime power restrictions. At the moment, the only restriction is for half-an-hour between 6.45 pm and 10.45 pm because of maintenance works at the Sabarigiri hydel project in Pathanamthitta. And this restriction is on alternate days only in southern Kerala.
