Sanctioned Retirement Benefit After Long Wait

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After 14 long years of retirement from the PWD, a person has now got the benefits from the family benefit scheme. The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) had issued orders to provide the amount to K Rajan.

K Rajan of Malayinkeezhu near here had retired from the PWD in 2000 after 26 years of service. Every month, he had deposited Rs 10 towards the Family Benefit Scheme. However, the Superintending Engineer said that the amount due to him from the scheme could not be given to him as an amount of Rs 1,180 was seen missing in the remitted amount.

Stating that such explanations could not be taken into account and showed only the irresponsibility of the officials concerned, Kerala State Human Rights Commission Chairperson J B Koshy directed the authorities concerned to inform the KSHRC about the official who was responsible for withholding the benefits.

The amount of Rs 5,074 due to Rajan was handed over to him after the order from the Kerala State Human Rights Commission.
