THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of reports of rat fever (leptospirosis) from many parts of the district, the District Medical Office has intensified prevention and control programmes.
District Medical Officer Dr K M Sirabudeen said that the people should be alert against the fever in the wake of reports from some parts of the district. However, he said that there was no alarming situation.
The Health Department has already cautioned that leptospirosis may top the list of diseases that could grip the city during monsoon this year.
If people come across fever, headache, pain around the eyes, muscular pain in the legs and vomiting, they should immediately go to the nearby hospital.
Sirabudeen also directed to keep the surroundings hygienic, cover all cuts or wounds on the body with waterproof plasters and wear protective clothing. He also said that one should avoid contact with stagnant water.
