Epidemics: Rs 30 cr Sanctioned

The government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the Ward-level Sanitation Committees for taking up epidemic prevention programmes.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the Ward-level Sanitation Committees for taking up epidemic prevention programmes.

 Theis was announced by Health Minister V S Sivakumar at the evaluation meeting on epidemic prevention for senior medical officers in the state. The government’s share to the National Rural Health Mission is now provided to the committees, taking into account the urgency of epidemic prevention.

 The Minister also gave instructions to ensure that there was enough stock of necessary medicines in all the hospitals from the primary health centres to the Medical Colleges.

 It was announced at the meeting that epidemics had been controlled in the state this year and the numbers have drastically come down. Stating that the number of dengue fever cases have come down, he said Thiruvananthapuram district, which had the maximum number of dengue cases reported, has also shown a major decrease.
