'Government to Launch Blood Donation Drives'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pointing out that a large number of people still refused to donate blood, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said that campaigns will be started to create awareness among the public regarding blood donation and its the importance in saving lives.

“Donating blood is one of the greatest things a person can do in his lifetime. Donating blood saves a life,” he said, while inaugurating the World Blood Donors Day at Durbar Hall at the Secretariat.

He also said that 70 per cent of the blood needed in the state is obtained from the donors.

Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson, State AIDS Control Society Project director Dr M Beena, DHS Dr S Jayashankar were present at the function.

It has been said that there is dire need for more voluntary blood donors in the State to meet the ever increasing demand.
